What happens during gynecology exams?

Before a gynecology exam, you’ll change into a gown. Your provider discusses the reason for your visit and your symptoms, medications, lifestyle habits, medical history, and more. They check your vital signs and complete an exam.

During a pelvic exam, they evaluate your vaginal canal and cervix to look for potential problems. They swab cells on your cervix during a Pap test to screen for signs of cervical cancer or test for STDs.

You might be a candidate for urine testing, blood tests, an ultrasound, a mammogram, or other diagnostic procedures. Your provider discusses any relevant treatment options, always giving you a voice in your treatment plan. Stoneleigh Primary Care also provides education regarding nutrition and other healthy habits.

How often should I schedule a gynecology visit?

While every patient is different, schedule a women’s health exam, including a pelvic exam, yearly or more often if your provider suggests it. You can also schedule an in-person or virtual appointment with the Stoneleigh Primary Care team if you have concerns, questions, or develop unusual symptoms.
